    Abstract

Representations have occupied a significant place in educational and didactic research, revealing a diversity and conflict of perspectives — a challenge inherent to any research of this nature. This article rests on the premise that philosophy in general, and the philosophical lesson in particular, are fundamentally driven by a struggle against representations and constitute a form of resistance to them. The history of philosophy itself bears ample witness to this struggle, with countless examples that resist exhaustive enumeration. It is important, therefore, for the teacher to resist both his own representations and those of his students. More critically, however, the teacher must equip students with the tools and mechanisms of this resistance — guiding and orienting them toward the ways in which such resistance is enacted, a process that cannot be reduced to mere prescription.
